Volume 13 Issue 01
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Weekly Lunch meetings in January 2013 have included presentations by IPDG, David Harliela, our recently returned President, WWF-HK and an American Ambassadorial Scholar. To find out more read on.
On the 4th January 2013, Immediate Past Governor, David Harilela inspired us with his vision and progress on his initiative to select “The One”, a global search to identify a Mother Teresa.
If you ever need to restore your faith in human nature just read the electronic version of the brochure or visit the dedicated website by clicking the buttons below. There are excellent examples of extreme selflessness and generosity in both.
Visiting Rotarian and PP, Dr.-Ing Weert Zell, a civil engineer from the Rotary Club of Recklinghausen in Germany also paid us a visit and he and Acting President and IPP Emba exchanged Club pennants.
At our lunch meeting on 11th January 2013, we welcomed our President Istvan back from his trip home to Hungary. He told us of his plans for the 2nd half of his year as President. This included our Annual Fund Raising Ball to be held at the Hong Kong Football Club on Saturday, 8th June 2013. You will have noticed that he has added more muscle to his frame over the Christmas and New Year Festivities!
At our weekly lunch on Friday, 18th January 2013 we enjoyed a talk from Mathew Cheung, Mai Po Centre Manager and Tony Hung, Conservation Officer of the WWF-HK. It was clear that there was much to see at Mai Po and RCKN Members were invited to visit the Mai Po Centre in the near future.
At our weekly Lunch on Friday, 25th January 2013, Ambassadorial Scholar, Marlynne Bidos Esq. from the USA spoke to us about her parents’ origins in Haiti and how they emigrated to USA in the 1970’s. Marlynne was born in USA. Her Ambassadorial Scholarship sponsors are the Rotary Club of Harlem and the Rotary Club of Riverdale, both of District 7230 NY, and she is hosted in Hong Kong by the Rotary Club of Peninsula.
Marlynne is a qualified lawyer in the USA and is currently studying for a Masters in Law in Chinese Law at the University of Hong Kong. She is also studying Putonghua. On completion of her MSc she has aspirations to work in Hong Kong with a law firm involved in USA law.
Visiting Rotarians were PP Jorgen Rasmussen from The Rotary Club of Lensburg, Zurich, Switzerland who has visited us on a number of occasions, and PE Samuel Lai, a Chartered Real Estate Broker from the Rotary Club of Vieux du/of Vieux Montreal, Canada who exchanged Club pennants with President Istvan.
That’s all for January 2013.
Yours in Rotary,
